This is the very first one I wrote for the writing workshop. It was just to include a bunch of words Jill chose. A few will probably stand out to you.
When’s the last time you wore a hat of birds
come in all shades of vermillion
to pull you up by the solid effervescence of your moonlit hair
(almost violent enough for your fancy… nevermind my dreams)
and create a brand new vision of a writhing goddess of defiance
hung by the crucifying promises of skyscrapers
mustering all the strength of the untruths of history
to make an example of your disappointment
or throw this peculiar queen
of cigarette-balmed nights and momentary mothlight
into the rearview mirrors of those who never could
figure out nights made of marble
and kept in the pockets of child kings
A token by which to remember
or forever forget
the stream of all things important--
the toys once so novel, now escaping notice
the fortune of your future, now present, now still unattained
the love of younger summers in which you still wish to partake, now elusive
No, no, forget that.
I will love you, serve you the hearts of beasts
on plates of ivory,
hang Beauty herself on your wrought-iron gate
to watch your principles whither into potency
and turn your perpendicular awe
into a dance of horizontal throes
so I can drink your star silk
from your mouth
and in the morning remember
that you love not dandelions,
but sunflowers,
you are as specific as we all are,
as perfected by the intricacy of faults,
and you are not as
stolen
as the night implies
